Doerr’s Excursions take you “Beyond the Hedges” to learn directly from top Houston industry leaders. These small-group, off-campus experiences let you explore real-world leadership challenges, hear stories of success and failure, and gain insights you can apply to your own leadership journey.
What are Excursions?
Excursions are off-campus experiences for small groups. You’ll meet a professional leader, tour their facilities, and receive a leadership assessment. Meals and transportation are provided.
- Half-day, off-campus experience with a professional Houston leader
- Meals and transportation provided for convenience
- Small groups: 7–10 students for an interactive experience
- Facility tour and leader insights: Learn from real-world successes, failures, and ethical dilemmas
- Student Leadership Assessment Report to reflect on your strengths and growth
New to Doerr?
Activation is the perfect place to start.
You’ll gain fresh insight into who you are as a leader, define the impact you want to make at Rice, and create a big-picture vision for your growth. This program is only offered once during your time at Rice (with the exception of Student Ambassadors), making it a unique opportunity to invest in yourself early.
Returning to Doerr?
If you’ve already taken other Doerr programs, Activation helps you evaluate where you are now and chart your next steps. It’s especially powerful if you’re currently in a leadership role—you’ll bring real experiences and challenges into your coaching sessions and walk away with strategies you can put into action immediately.
