Doerr’s Leadership Cohorts offer an intensive, year-long experience designed to help you cultivate your leader identity and develop a strong sense of purpose. Through this program, you’ll engage in a variety of Doerr programs, gain access to expert guidance, and connect deeply with other student leaders.
What are Leadership Cohorts?
This immersive program allows you to deepen your skills, practice leadership in multiple contexts, and grow alongside a peer cohort committed to making an impact.
- Synthesis Group Coaching: One semester of group learning on a topic tied to your cohort theme
- Activation Coaching: Three one-on-one coaching sessions to reflect and set personalized leadership goals
- Two Catalyst Modules: Targeted workshops aligned with your cohort theme to sharpen specific leadership skills
- Peer cohort connections: Build lasting relationships with other student leaders committed to growth
- Exclusive access: Tailored experiences and guidance from Doerr Institute experts

New to Doerr?
If you’re a first-year Rice student, the Leading as a First Year Cohort is a great place to start! Designed specifically for students who are new to campus, this cohort helps you build confidence, clarify your leadership identity, and develop skills you can use right away at Rice and beyond.
Students who are not in their first year are required to complete Activation before applying for a Leadership Cohort. Activation provides a strong foundation through one-on-one coaching and mustbe completed prior to cohort participation. Register for Activation here!
Returning to Doerr?
Leadership Cohorts are a powerful way to take your leadership skills to the next level through a year-long, immersive experience. These cohorts are designed for students who are ready to deepen their practice, apply what they’ve learned, and grow alongside a committed group of peers.
We currently offer Coaching Skills for Leaders, where you’ll learn how to coach others. The skills you develop in this cohort are highly transferable and will serve you well in the workplace and beyond.
