CoachRICE for Professionals

CoachRICE is a premier coaching certification program offered by the Doerr Institute for New Leadersa university-wide leader development enterprise at Rice Universitywith administrative support from the Executive Education division of The Jones Graduate School of Business.


This 105-hour Level 1 accredited program with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) applies a variety of teaching and learning methodologies to give participants an immersive experience and practical coaching skill set combined with the rigorous academic standards of Rice University.


CoachRICE participants deep dive into the eight ICF Core Competencies and gold standard Code of Ethics on a path to becoming ICF-certified coaches equipped to develop individual leaders and team members within an organization. 


After successful completion of the program, participants earn a Doerr Institute Certificate of Completion to include in their ICF application for an ACC credential.   
 

ICF Level 1

The course encompasses:

  • Concentrated learning Modules
  • Mentor coaching 
  • A performance evaluation
  • Participants will explore processes that combine collaboration, creativity, and compassion to become an agent of change for clients and organizations
  • After successful completion of the program, participants will earn a Doerr Institute Certificate of Completion verifying  completion of an ICF accredited Level 1 program

Online and In-person Options

  • In-person Option Applications for the Fall 2025 cohort at Rice University (Houston, TX) will open in Spring 2025. This cohort is offered in a hybrid format with online and in-person modules held on the Rice University campus. Participants must attend all on campus modules in person. 
     
  • Virtual Option Applications for the Spring 2025 cohort will open in Fall 2025.

The full application has a "Save and return to finish later" feature. Admissions decisions will not be announced until the admissions decision announcement date. Format

CoachRICE is a 105-hour coaching program. 

 The program is delivered through a combination of instruction, presentations, discussions, dyadic exercises and other interactive methods and independent studies. All required Modules, including pre-class hours, are completed over a period of ten months. This program is offered in English.

The Spring 2025 Cohort begins in January and includes four virtual learning Modules delivered via Zoom and on Canvas.

The upcoming 2025 In-person Cohort that begins in August will be facilitated in-person on the Rice University campus and online via Zoom and Canvas.

Curriculum

Module One: Introduction to Leadership Coaching
Introduction to Coaching will cover an in-depth overview of the practice of coaching. Topics will include self-awareness and personal development as a coach, emotional intelligence for leaders, and core competencies such as coaching presence and establishing agreements.

Module Two: Essential Tools and Methodologies for Coaching
This Module focuses on the process of coaching and examines various models that support a coaching conversation. Participants will practice the listening and communication skills necessary for cultivating trust and evoking awareness with a client.

Module Three: Facilitating Client Growth
This Module focuses on goal creation, accountability and managing progress with a client. Participants will explore the common barriers, challenges and mindsets encountered in leadership coaching.

Module Four: Inclusion Practices in Coaching
This Module will increase coaches’ sensitivity to issues of diversity, equity and cultural competency and examine the importance of the ICF Code of Ethics. Participants will be evaluated on all ICF core competencies and provided with an overview of the ICF-credentialing process.

All content is created by Doerr Institute professionals using evidence-based techniques and is supported with research-validated outcomes. This program is offered in English.


Program Schedule 

All Modules are delivered in Standard English (U.S.). Students must be able to fully commit to the schedule. If a class is missed, students are required to wait and attend a future module that corresponds to the missed content and will be charged a make-up fee.
