Coaching Skills for Leaders Cohort

The Doerr Institute’s Coaching Skills for Leaders Cohort is an intensive leader development experience in which participants will work to internalize a coaching mindset and demonstrate foundational coaching skills as outlined by the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Through this Leadership Cohort, participants will experience a variety of Doerr Institute programs and have exclusive access to tailored offerings and experts. Participants will also receive 15.5 hours of ICF Continuing Coach Education (CCE) units that they could use toward the ACC Portfolio Path. (video)

Learning Goals

After participating in this cohort, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A coaching mindset approach to leadership
  • Foundational coaching skills in a conversation recording
  • Foundational knowledge by passing the CoachRICE final assessment.

Eligibility

  • You must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at Rice University
  • You must have completed Activation (one-on-one coaching program). If you are a first-year student at Rice, please check out the Leading as a First Year Cohort

Doerr Institute Programs Included

  • Activation: Access to three one-on-one coaching conversations 
  • Catalyst #1: Active Listening
  • Catalyst #2: Facilitating Growth in Others

Dates and Details

If you are selected for the 2025-2026 Coaching Skills for Leaders cohort, you must be available to attend the following sessions. These sessions are scheduled to take place in person. 

  • Session 1: Tuesday, September 23rd, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Session 2: Tuesday, October 7th, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Session 3: Tuesday, October 21st, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Session 4: Tuesday, November 4th, 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.
  • Session 5: Tuesday, February 3rd, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Session 6: Tuesday, February 17th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Session 7: Tuesday, February 24th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Session 8: Tuesday, March 10th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Session 9: TBD

Applications are open for the 2025-2026 Leadership Cohorts. Fall is the ONLY time to apply for these incredible programs.

Application instructions: Unlike our other Doerr programs, admission to our Leadership Cohorts requires a dedicated application. We encourage you to review the application questions thoroughly before beginning your application.
