Leading as a First Year Cohort
The Doerr Institute's Leading as a First-Year Cohort is the perfect way for first-year undergraduates to build a network of peer leaders and transition into their leader identity at Rice University. Over one academic year, cohort participants explore how their leadership stories, values, purpose, and beliefs build their unique leader identity and identify opportunities they have to make an impact while at Rice.
Students selected for this cohort will participate in a customized group learning experience in the Fall semester and 1:1 personalized coaching sessions in the Spring semester.
Learning Goals
After participating in this program, you will be able to:
- Articulate your values, beliefs, and aspirations as a leader (self-concept/ aspirational self concept clarity)
- Adopt a personalized leader identity and increased leader efficacy (identity/efficacy)
- Build a lasting network of leaders in your graduating class
- Identify opportunities to grow as a leader while at Rice
Eligibility
- Open to first-year undergraduate students at Rice University
Session Dates
If you are selected for the 2024-2025 Leading as a First Year Cohort, you must be available to attend the following sessions. These sessions are scheduled to take place in person.
- Session 1: Tuesday, September 24th 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- Session 2: Tuesday, October 8th 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- Session 3: Tuesday, October 22nd 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- Session 4: Tuesday, November 5th 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.
- Session 5: TBD
Students selected for this cohort will complete the above programs alongside other members of their assigned cohort. Please note Catalyst modules may include students outside of the assigned cohort.
