Using VA Education Benefits for CoachRICE: Level 1 (GI Bill®)
CoachRICE: Level 1 (Associate Certified Coach Prep Course) is approved by the Texas Veterans Commission as a preparatory course for the International Coach Federation (ICF) Associate Certified Coach (ACC) certification exam. Approval is effective August 17, 2026. Only participants who complete CoachRICE: Level 1 on or after August 17, 2026 are eligible.
Eligible participants pay the Doerr Institute directly, then request reimbursement from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA makes all eligibility and payment decisions.
Who is eligible
You must already be approved for one of these VA benefits:
- Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), or
- Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (Chapter 35)
The Montgomery GI Bill (Chapters 30 and 1606) does not cover prep courses. Reimbursement uses part of your remaining benefit entitlement, so check your balance before you enroll.
How to request reimbursement
- Apply for VA education benefits first, if you haven't already. Apply at VA.gov. You must be approved before the VA will reimburse you.
- Enroll in and pay for CoachRICE: Level 1.
- Complete CoachRICE: Level 1.
- Request your enrollment verification letter by emailing CoachRICE@rice.edu. We'll send it within 5 business days, with a copy of your receipt.
- Submit your reimbursement request to VA. Use VA Form 22-10272, and attach your receipt and our verification letter. You can apply online, upload through QuickSubmit, or mail it. See VA's instructions.
- VA reviews your request and reimburses you directly.
Taking the ACC exam? You may also be able to get the exam fee reimbursed, up to $2,000, using VA Form 22-0803. That request goes to VA, not the Doerr Institute.
Find us in VA's search tool: Search "Rice" in the GI Bill Comparison Tool for Licenses, certifications, and prep courses.
